RESUMEN

Existe una cierta desinformación entre el público no especializado, acerca del proceso de surgimiento y configuración del pueblo mapuche como un sistema cultural propio y diferenciado. Por ello, el presente artículo pretende aproximar al lector a una comprensión de dicho proceso. Para ello, nos valdremos de los diferentes estudios e investigaciones provenientes de la arqueología y de la etnohistoria, para mostrar como los diferentes grupos humanos que habitaban en el actual territorio chileno, fueron articulando un sistema cultural homogéneo, que con el paso del tiempo, se configuró a través de diversos procesos, como la cultura mapuche.

ABSTRACT

There is some misinformation among the unspecialised public, about the process of rise and configuration of the Mapuche people as a proper and own cultural system.

Therefore, this article aims to bring the reader to an understanding of this process and the origins of this people. Through the use the studies and research from archeology and ethnohistory, we will show how different human groups who inhabited the present territory of Chile, have started articulating a homogeneous cultural system, which over time, through various processes, configured itself as the Mapuche culture.
